BIOGRAFIA del PROFESSORE KENNETH G. ZYSK:
Il professor Kenneth G. Zysk è professore emerito di Indologia e scienza indiana presso il Dipartimento di Studi Interculturali dell'Università di Copenaghen. I suoi ambiti di ricerca comprendono la scienza e la medicina dell'antica Asia meridionale, con particolare attenzione alla trasmissione delle conoscenze e allo scambio culturale nell'antichità. Il suo interesse iniziale per la scienza indiana è nato dallo studio della medicina indiana nella letteratura vedica arcaica, avvalendosi di fonti in tutte le antiche lingue di derivazione sanscrita, nonché in lingue classiche europee come il greco e il latino, ove necessario. Il contributo fondamentale della ricerca del professor Zysk risiede nell'esplorazione della storia e della letteratura scientifica e medica dell'Asia meridionale, nonché nel suo apporto al dibattito più ampio sulle origini della medicina tradizionale indiana (Ayurveda) e della scienza indiana (Jyotiḥśāstra) e sulla trasmissione delle conoscenze nell'antichità.

The lectures will be delivered by the professor in English - with Italian translation
Talks:
-10:30 AM – 12:30 PM - The Yoga Sutras: An Introduction to Classical Yoga. Professor Kenneth G. Zysk—an Indologist and expert in Sanskrit—will examine specific sutras and explain their true meaning, starting from their translation from Sanskrit into English.
-4:00 PM – 6:00 PM - Indian Thought: Professor Kenneth G. Zysk shares his deep knowledge of the foundational texts of ancient Indian science, philosophy, and literature to outline the Indian culture that gave rise to Yoga. For many Yoga students, understanding the historical and cultural context of the Indian world is essential. -

Biography of Prof.Kenneth Zysk:
Professor Kenneth Zysk is Professor Emeritus of Indology and Indian Science in the Department of Cross-Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen.
His research topics include ancient South Asian Science and Medicine, with a special focus on knowledge transfer and cultural exchange in antiquity.
His initial interest in Indian science started with a study of Indian medicine in the early Vedic literature using sources in all the ancient Sanskrit-based languages as well as classical European languages, such as Greek and Latin, when they are required.
The major impact of Prof.Kenneth Zysk ‘s research lies in the exploration of the field of the South Asian’s scientific and medical history and literature and contributing to the more general debate on origin of traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda) and science (Jyotiḥśāstra) and the transfer of knowledge in antiquity.
